The Art of Making an Impression at Auditions

_MG_0970.jpg

Auditions are perhaps the most critical moment for an actor. Within just a few minutes, one must showcase their talent, convey their artistic identity, and convince the panel of their suitability for a role. It's a unique and demanding process that blends artistic expression with composure, strategy, and self-awareness.

As Hippo Theatre Group, with over 15 years of experience in theatrical productions and dozens of auditions under our belt, we’ve developed a clear understanding of what works — and what doesn’t — in an audition setting. Drawing from this experience, we created a seminar specifically designed to help actors prepare more purposefully, effectively, and mindfully for any type of audition.

What the seminar includes:

  • Practical techniques for proper audition preparation

  • How to "set up" your presence in the room (attire, body language, speech)

  • Managing anxiety and boosting confidence

  • Making the most of your material (monologue, song, improvisation)

  • What directors value — and what they usually reject

  • Active listening and responding to direction

  • How to leave a positive impression even if you don’t get the role

  • Common mistakes and how to avoid them

  • Tips for different types of auditions (adult theatre, children's theatre, musicals)

Instructors:

Alexandros Raptis
Director, actor, writer, producer, and founding member of Hippo Theatre Group. He has directed dozens of theatrical productions and has been actively involved in actor selection for the group’s projects since 2009.
