IKAROS
Hippo Theatre Group presents a science fiction theatre performance for children aged 3–12 based on the myth of Ikaros.
Public performances every Sunday at Theatre Choros in Athens and every Saturday at Mikri Skini in Thessaloniki from November 2026.
Weekday performances for schools from October 2026 in Athens, Thessaloniki, and on tour throughout Greece.
Synopsis
The year is 2300. Earth is slowly dying. The air is running out. Natural resources have been depleted. Humanity has been divided into two worlds: those living safely beneath a vast artificial dome, and those who have been exiled, struggling to survive beyond its borders. Everyone believes that the future of humankind lies on a distant planet. Or so they think.
Dr. Dal, a brilliant scientist and the right-hand man of Governor Seth Sapius, creates Ikaros, a humanoid equipped with advanced artificial intelligence. Ikaros is entrusted with the most important mission in Earth's history: to travel to the planet Kepler and prepare the way for humanity's new beginning. But just before his departure, Ikaros discovers a truth that changes everything.
About the Performance
What does it truly mean to be human?
Why does helping others matter?
Why should we care for one another—and for our planet?
Can a child change the future?
The timeless myth of Icarus meets science fiction in an original theatrical adaptation for children. Through imagination and the immediacy of live theatre, Ikaros invites young audiences to engage with some of the most pressing issues of our time: climate change, social inequality, diversity, collective responsibility, and the importance of solidarity.
The production is based on the principles of Kinemo Physical Theatre, combining expressive movement, original music, live singing, and interactive activities to create a unique immersive theatrical experience. A minimalist yet inventive set, together with striking costumes, transforms the stage into a vibrant futuristic universe.
Ikaros is an exciting space adventure that trusts children's intelligence and imagination, encouraging them to envision a different world—one where change begins the moment we dare to question what seems unquestionable.
Without preaching, the performance offers an optimistic vision of the future, celebrating the power of cooperation, empathy, and independent thinking.
Because perhaps the future will not be saved by a powerful machine…but by a human choice.
The play is published by KAPPA Publications.
