The City of Lost Robots
The City of Lost Robots is a futuristic play for children, written by Fotis Dousos and Alexandros Raptis. The play is influenced by the sci-fi genre and has related references.
The City of Lost Robots is a story of freedom. A story of revolution and self sacrifice. The story unfolds in a futuristic environment full of new technological discoveries and human-like robots. In this alternate reality technology has advanced to such an extent that robots have feelings and resemble humans in almost everything. The Global Government – the Super State – wants to use these robot as slaves and thus places a special chip in them to be able to control them. The special chip is called the chip of discipline and having that the robots have no free will and always follow the orders of their masters, no matter how absurd they are. The hero of our story is Pin, the first free humanoid. Pin was created by the genius scientist JP, without a chip of discipline. JP could no longer bear to see the robots enslaved, so she decided to create a robot with free will, a robot that could bring change.
During the play we follow the adventures of PIN and we observe him as he tries to understand what does his free nature means for himself and the other robots.
Will Pin be able to use his freedom for the benefit of the world? Will he be able to prove that he has a hidden humanity and that, in the end, your actions make you a human being? With the quote "we are not born human, we become it", Pin begins his journey of self-knowledge, a journey full of twists, dilemmas, humoristic and emotional moments. What does freedom means after all? Does it mean to do whatever you want? Does it mean to take the responsibility for your actions? Does it mean to do good for society? In the end Pin has to make a choice: to live a free life happy not caring for others or to sacrifice himself for the good of the society?
