Hippo Theatre Group presents: "The Spirit of Christmas"

An interactive theatrical-educational experience inspired by Charles Dickens’ beloved holiday classic.

Program Overview

“The Spirit of Christmas” is a participatory theatrical storytelling experience based on Charles Dickens’ timeless Christmas tale. Designed for children aged 3–11, this festive program blends theatre, movement, music, and improvisation into a joyful and emotionally enriching adventure.

Presented in the form of a theatre-in-education workshop, the program invites children to:

  • Listen to the story in parts,

  • Join in the action,

  • Play movement-based games,

  • Sing and dance,

  • Take part in guided and free-form improvisations.

Theatrical facilitators from Hippo Theatre Group bring the story to life, embodying key characters such as the iconic Ebenezer Scrooge, while many of the supporting roles are played by the children themselves, with the gentle guidance of the performers.

Educational & Emotional Goals

The central theme of the program is altruism—exploring empathy, emotional awareness, and the inner world of each child. Through engaging activities, the children experience what it means to:

  • Offer and receive kindness,

  • Appreciate the value of compassion,

  • Understand that love for others transcends the holiday season.

Though rooted in the spirit of Christmas, the program delivers a universal and timeless message.

Creative Benefits

  • Encourages imaginative expression and physical engagement

  • Fosters teamwork and participation in a safe and inclusive environment

  • Combines the joy of play with the depth of personal discovery

  • Offers emotional fulfillment and social connection through creative storytelling
